Willacy Country Art League Gallery

The Willacy County Art League Gallery will be displaying the talented work of local artists. This location will also serve as the hub for all Amateur Wildlife Photography and Wildlife & Heritage Poster Contest entries. Amateur photographers as young as 5 are encouraged to participate in this annual photography competition. Willacy County High School students are encouraged to express themselves thru art using different mediums in the Wildlife & Heritage Poster Contest.

Trade Show

The L.E. Franks Tourist Center will serve as the focal point to arts & crafts, jewelry makers, purses, and much more will be available for guests to enjoy. Exhibits from Texas Department of Agriculture, U.S. Fish and Wildlife, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Valley Nature Center, the USDA, and others will also be available.


Children’s Program

Wild in Willacy offers an educational and hands on program for children of all ages. Arts & Crafts, marine touch tanks, dinosaur bone digs, honey bee exhibits, live reptiles, and so much more will be on hand for the children to experience. The Children’s Program will take place inside the Raymondville Historical Museum on FRIDAY ONLY!


Wild in Willacy Cook-Off

The festival will be offering an IBCA Sanctioned Cook Off with the entries including : Beef Brisket, Pork Spare Ribs, and Chicken. Jackpot categories of beans and pan de campo will be included. Cash and prizes will be on hand for category winners.


WILD IN WILLACY TOURS

LA CHATA RANCH…The winding senderos at La Chata Ranch lead you into la natural extravaganza of wildlife viewing.  This tour is a birding, wildlife and historical tour.  Exotic animals roam among the ranch in a natural setting of brush and native grasses.  A cowboy breakfast will be enjoyed by tour guests.  Attox, Nilgai, deer and even ostriches are among the wildlife that may be seen at this ranch.

PORT MANSFIELD….A sunset tour of Port Mansfield is sure to be a treat by means of the local “Trolly”. Wildlife viewing and shore bird viewing opportunities will make this an enjoyable trip for guests. Port Mansfield is one of  Willacy County’s jewels and is a great destination for fishing.  Fishing, boating and wildlife viewing opportunities are available year round for guests.  Tour will leave the Raymondville at 5:00 p.m and will arrive at the Port Pavilion.  Guests will be picked up by the Trolley for the tour.

 

HUNKE RANCH  The Hunke Ranch is located between Hidalgo and Willacy counties and serves as a border to the King Ranch.  Because of its geographical position, the ranch is a prime location to see a diversity of plant and animal life.  Hunke ranch has a lot of deer, javalinas, armadillos and other small mammals.  It hosts a really nice system of ponds where water birds can be seen and has the ferruginous pygmy owl as one of its main attractions.

Sal Del Rey The tours of the unique Salt Lakes are always popular. These Lakes of South Texas at one time made Sal Del Tey the most valuable piece of land in the region. Both history and wildlife are a big part of thes natural wonder with history dating back to 1536 and with wildlife and birds such as curlews and other diverse shorebird species making these lakes their home.
